dear friends,
some things i’m mulling / enjoying lately!
a theology of beauty
Did you know there are hundreds of thousands of species of flowers? Walking through spring a few weeks ago made me wonder. God didn’t have to create that many flowers. One or two would have done the job. Three tops. More feels extravagant. And he did it anyway. Why? Just because. Out of sheer delight. Because they are pretty and he probably had fun making them—the colors, shapes, varieties of pollen for the little bees. And maybe because he thought we would enjoy them 🥹
a video game
My brother and I are having a blast with It Takes Two. We love the chaotically fun gameplay. We’re rooting for the two main characters—a couple on their way to divorce (yikes. the bickering, the blame, the contempt is too well-written) to find friendship and choose love again. We’re also just really really good at gaming together. Must be the middle children vibes 😎
psalm snippets
I’ve been enjoying the psalms lately to help practice lectio divina. These lines surfaced as I slowly mutter over the ancient songs.
psalm 36 by means of your light, we see light
psalm 37 he is always generous, always lending, and his children are a blessing
psalm 38 my wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness
psalm 39 every human being stands as only a vapor
psalm 40 none can compare to you
psalm 40 be pleased to rescue me, hurry to help me, Lord
psalm 42 deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls
psalm 43 send your light and your truth; let them lead me
psalm 45 ride triumphantly in the cause of truth, humility, and justice
psalm 48 our God forever and ever—he will always lead us
an album
I’ve been re-listening to my favorite Art Tatum jazz album recorded live from 1933.
be well, friends!

love,
