A thanksgiving poem
and calvary is always enough
a thanksgiving poem
true wealth is the thing money can’t buy.
you can’t bottle it up.
you can’t make more of it.
real riches is a breath of fresh air.
it’s when you have loved ones—nose-pressed against the glass,
eager for your arrival.
it’s the best feeling in the world.
a song
I’ve had Brooke’s album on repeat the last few months. Play this song if your heart needs some stillness.
I resolve to know nothing but You crucified
Somehow in this room right now, it is enough
The weight of the world, too much for the souls of men
But somehow You hold it all upon the crossCalvary's enough, Calvary's enough
When I know nothing, when I know too much
What I choose to know right now is Calvary's enough
God, I know nothing.
But I know this much:
Calvary is always enough.
a quote
From our favorite Tim Keller expounding on Psalm 81.
It’s in the wilderness that you meet God. Moses knew about God. But where did God become an existential reality? In the wilderness. Where did Elijah have the experience of the earthquake and fire and still small voice? In the wilderness. When Jesus went to meet God, he went into the wilderness to pray. You may believe in God. You may pray to God. The Bible is telling us that you hardly ever meet God except in the wilderness. And that’s great! Because to say life is a wilderness is not gloom. It’s hopeful! Because it’s in the desert that people met God. And it’s true for us too. Until you’re in the desert, God is an abstraction. He’s not your Rock, he’s not what you build your whole life on, he’s not the thing you run to, he’s not the center, he’s not what you connect to. It was in the desert that God gave water. It was in the desert that God gave the pillar of light.
Rejoice on schedule. Do not neglect the discipline of corporate worship. In the Bible, there are always solid grounds for gratitude to God. The most valid means for awakening your heart in the wilderness is corporate worship. Especially through music. When you don’t feel like worshipping the King, then you need to come to church and gently force your heart to remember the things He’s done, through music.
TLDR? Do not fear suffering. For He will provide a Rock of shelter in the wilderness. And He will satisfy us with honey from that rock.
be well, friends! enjoy this new magic trick i’ve been practicing:
