A pram prayer

a prayer
Once a week, I snatch smol nephew for a few morning hours. Lately, we roam East Coast Park. We play at the playground, meander under the trees, and feast on a five-dollar McD meal. The first thing I do after we 著襪襪, 著鞋鞋 (wear socks and shoes) is to pray for us as we pram down the road. Tedders loves it. He looks up at me, squinting (he knows we’re talking to Jesus, but doesn’t want to ‘miss out’ by closing his eyes completely).
I pray something like this:
dear jesus!
thank you for this morning that 細路 and 萍姨 can enjoy.
help us have fun!
surprise us as we make memories!
holy spirit,
help tedders listen well to pingyee.
help pingyee listen well to tedders.
help us both obey you joyfully.
we love you!
in jesus name we pray…ah-moon!

Fun fact! Sunflowers do this thing where they ‘track’ the sun across the sky, always facing the light. It reminds me of the Christian life. No matter where we are planted—to turn our eyes upward, to fix our gaze on Jesus, the Light of life. A friend told me about the sunflower showcase at Changi airport, so I hopped two MRT stops over to check it out with my fujifilm. I spotted 8 of the 10 varieties!

I love the Old Testament. With all the drama and chaos it contains, who needs netflix lols. My church is going through 2 Samuel, and chapter 5 has this verse:
So David went to Ba’al Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Ba’al Perazim.
The footnote says ba’al perazim means: the lord who breaks out. In God’s perfect timing, He will break through. He is powerful enough. He is just enough. He is kind enough. Our job is to ask God for instructions, and await his reply. I like that David “inquires” of the Lord twice in this passage (v19, v23). He’s come a long way from taking matters into his own hands like he did in 1 Samuel when taking refuge in enemy territory for years. It takes practice to watch and wait. But what hope we have knowing that the Lord of breakthrough is on our side.
be well, friends! we also sing while strolling, and tedders doesn’t miss a beat!
love,
reb
